EPOCA was developed by a working group at Swiss Insurance Medicine (SIM). The assessment comprises various medical questionnaires that help to record the health status of people affected by Long COVID in a structured manner.
The EPOCA assessment is being continuously developed. A particularly debilitating symptom of Long COVID is post-exertional malaise (PEM, stress intolerance), which previously was not explicitly assessed in EPOCA. The latest version of the assessment now includes the PEM questionnaire translated to German by Prof. Dr. med. Uta Behrends from Klinikum rechts der Isar in Munich.
This was an important addition to the EPOCA assessment, enabling a better evaluation of people affected by Long COVID.
EPOCA is available in the Altea Care app. With Altea Care, patients can complete the EPOCA assessment from the comfort of their own home and then securely share the data entered with their healthcare professional. This allows patients to organize their time when answering the questions in order to reduce stress and avoid crashes.
The PEM questionnaire has already been integrated into the EPOCA Flow in the Altea Care app and can now be used.
Professionals who wish to use EPOCA for the diagnosis and follow-up of Long COVID are welcome to contact support@movos.ch for more information.
