Invalidity Insurance (AI/IV) numbers now publicly available

The Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) is publishing the AI/IV registration numbers in connection with Long COVID on a dedicated page.

The first cases of AI/IV benefits granted in relation to Long COVID are now known. This has been presented in an article from Ticino: about a handful of cases were decided, others are still pending.

The number of invalidity insurance registrations is an indicator of the burden of disease caused by Long COVID. Altea had already discussed this last summer. The Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) has now set up a public Website on which the registration figures are published and updated monthly.

It is still unclear how many of those registered will receive benefits from the AI/IV.

According to this monitoring of the long-term consequences of Covid-19, 1777 people registered with the AI/IV in 2021 because of or with Long COVID. This corresponds to 2.27% of all registrations (reference year for this ratio: 2019). How many of them have also received benefits or a pension has not yet been published. The FSIO is currently collecting the relevant data.

Currently around 150 people seem to be registering monthly, so around 5 per day. It is still unclear how long these affected persons will remain restricted in their earning capacity and how the number of registrations will develop.
