On Friday, December 10th, the second “Talk about it. Seek help” action day will take place. The time is right, as experience shows that Advent and the winter months can be emotionally stressful for many people even at “normal” times. Since last year, the influence of the pandemic has made things even more difficult. The mental health of the population has been and continues to be affected by the restrictions. These include lockdown measures, fewer social contacts, financial bottlenecks, and the fear of possible infections.
Long COVID and Mental Health
Psychological aspects also play an important role in Long COVID, which is why it is important to make the topic heard. Long COVID is not primarily a mental health problem, but the long-term consequences also affect the mental health of those affected.
There are plenty of easily accessible mental health support offers available.
Raising public awareness
A year ago, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) therefore organized the “Talk about it. Seek help.” action day. In the Advent season, in particular, they wanted to offer a platform to broadly address the importance of the topic of “mental health in times of Covid” and to highlight its numerous aspects.
According to the FOPH, the campaign has the following three objectives:
- The population should be made aware of issues relating to mental health.
- The topic should be relieved of taboos and the search for help should be de-stigmatized.
- Affected people should get to know what the specific offers of help are. Moreover, all those who do not suffer from emotional stress should be motivated to carefully observe their surroundings and to speak to those who appear depressed.
The action day was a success and will take place for the second time on December 10th, 2021.
Promoting awareness about offers of assistance
The action day is taking place for the second time today, because "the feedback from the aid organizations allows us to conclude that the project was a success," as the FOPH wrote. Unfortunately, the pandemic is still not over in 2021, and offers of assistance are still of great importance. Therefore, attention is drawn again to the offers and an overview of possible contact points is provided. This helps preventing long-term consequences.
