In a previous blog in early June, we already referred to the vote on the COVID law. You can read here why an extension of the COVID law still makes sense now, even though the pandemic has officially been declared to be over. Among other things, the extension maintains the possibility to continue the support of federally funded research projects on acute COVID-19 infection but also on Long COVID. The extension was approved by 61.9%, with 42.5% participation in the referendum. Only in three cantons (Appenzell-Innerrhoden, Obwalden and Schwyz) the voters opposed the extension. At the end of the voting day, there were calls for an independent review of both the political decisions during the pandemic and their long-term effects. We are eager to see the results and look forward to sharing them as they become available.
