Lots of new Vademecum online: it’s worth taking a look!

Difficulties with breathing, sleep, or mood? New exercise instructions on these and other topics are available for downloading.

Ever since the first survey among people affected by Long COVID last January, one thing has been clear: help with symptom relief is one of their key requirements. Helping with tried-and-tested tips is therefore one of Altea’s central pledges.

When the platform was launched in mid-April, the first Vademecum had already been posted and we explained the principle behind them. In the meantime, numerous new documents have been added in collaboration with the Altea Expert Board, with more in the pipeline.

It’s therefore worthwhile taking a look every now and then at the Vademecum overview. All Vademecum are available for download as PDFs. To date, we have had more than 2’000 downloads.

The symptom cluster with the most Vademecum, currently six, is breathing. Information is available, for example, on slow diaphragmatic respiration, body positions that ease breathing and a nose-clearing exercise.

When it comes to fatigue or chronic fatigue, it is exceedingly important not to take on too much. The Vademecum on pacing and PEM (post-exertional malaise) help with recognizing crashes and preventing them.

For mental health, techniques such as meditation, Shinrin Yoku or various breathing exercises can help. A Vademecum about the Wim Hof Method is coming soon.

If sleep is impaired, it’s worthwhile checking out so-called sleep hygiene, for example. The corresponding section explains what this means exactly.

For pain, techniques such as Progressive Muscle Relaxation or Shiatsu can have a soothing effect.

And finally, in the case of weakness, the patient should take their time and ease back into training very carefully and cautiously. The Vademecum “Back to Sport” will help in finding the appropriate and safe balance here. It is also used successfully in various physiotherapy practices.

Many affected people and therapists found the Vademecum on PEM, pacing and "Back to Sport" especially helpful.
