We warmly welcome you to Altea! Our most important goal is: To improve the quality of life of those affected by Long COVID by creating a central point of contact. At Altea, those affected by Long COVID, their relatives and medical and scientific experts exchange ideas. We keep a list of contact points and events. We also report on the latest developments in medicine and science as well as in society, politics and law.
Altea should offer orientation in difficult, confusing times - a compass on the way to the future.
Why do we exist?
The Long COVID syndrome has not yet been adequately documented and researched. For those affected this means that they often do not get a clear diagnosis. In this situation, this is particularly stressful. The contact with doctors, therapists, health insurers and employers can also be challenging. From the point of view of the research, there are currently more questions than answers, too.
Long COVID is a syndrome. “Syndrome” describes a combination of different symptoms, of which it is not yet clear how they are connected and what is their cause.
Altea would like to support the search for scientific answers to open questions by promoting contact between those affected, researchers and doctors and thus also accelerating the search for suitable therapeutic options.
Who are we?
Altea was initiated by LUNGE ZURICH, a non-profit organization with the aim of improving the quality of life for people with lung disease. Other potential partners have expressed their interest in supporting Altea even more broadly in the future. Altea is conducted by an interdisciplinary team of affected people as well as health and communication experts.
Where do we want to go?
The central element of Altea is the exchange and the development of the platform directly with the target groups. This means that those affected, and their relatives are taken seriously and actively participate in accordance with the principle of “co-creation”. Researchers, doctors, therapists, and caregivers ask their open questions and share their findings. Altea will also be a hub for questions relating to law and politics. We want to further promote mutual networking and create a mood of optimism.

Why «Altea»?
The name Altea is derived from the Greek “Althaíā” and the Latin “Althaea” and means "the one who heals" or "the one who cares". We want to focus on hope and a positive attitude. Even if Long COVID is protracted, many of those affected report significant improvements over time.
A similar idea is behind the Altea logo with the compass needle in the "a". Altea should offer orientation in difficult, confusing times - a compass on the way to the future.
