For physios: key info on therapy for Long COVID explained in short videos

The “Physio for Physio” network presents current knowledge relating to the treatment of Long COVID within physiotherapy in the form of compact training videos.

A new YouTube channel has been set up under the name “physio4physio”, which provides science-based, proven knowledge on the treatment of Long COVID within physiotherapy in the form of short, 5-to-15-minute videos.

As the name suggests, Physio for Physio was created by physiotherapists who were interested in this particular area, with the aim of supporting their colleagues in the new topic of Long COVID. Physio for Physio came about as a result of the collaboration between a Long COVID quality circle consisting of physiotherapists from different hospitals in the Canton of Zurich and respiratory physiotherapists (IGPTR-P) who were studying the topic as part of a FOPH working group.

The first video, for example, explains a range of terms – an important aspect in connection with Long COVID:

Introduction of terms in outpatient rehabilitation of Long COVID in physiotherapy

The national working group Physio for Physio is an independent organization but is supported by the FOPH and Physioswiss (German). It works in close collaboration with Altea and the IGPTR-P respiratory physiotherapists, and also has links to the University Hospital Zurich, the Stadtspital Zürich hospital and Inselspital Bern. As a result, the content of the videos is science-based and broadly supported.

Freely selectable subtitles

The videos are currently available with German and English subtitles. The subtitles can be switched on and off in the settings (gear icon at the bottom right of the video). When one of the available languages is selected, the option “Auto-translate” also appears in the subtitle menu. This option allows the user to choose from languages such as French, Italian and many others. There are plans to produce the videos in French and Italian in future as well.

A second video looks at safe rehabilitation in order to prevent causing harm to patients:

Safe rehabilitation in outpatient rehabilitation of Long COVID in physiotherapy

The working group Physio for Physio was set up following the realization that there is a demand for an expansion of good physiotherapy treatment options for people affected with Long COVID across the board. These types of treatment are currently mainly focused on the large medical centers.

Because the available training for physiotherapists is not easily accessible, the group decided to take action. The videos now provide a very easily accessible introduction to the topic, as well as additional sources.

The following video presents the most common symptoms such as Fatigue as well as stress-related deterioration of symptoms (PEM):

The information about Pacing is split into three parts: The terms are explained first, followed by the different Pacing methods, and concrete examples are then used to explain the practical application of these methods in day-to-day life:
